The Chilliwack Academy of Music is pleased to announce its participation in the new Chilliwack Cultural Centre. The project includes the planning and construction of a $22 million state-of-the-art cultural facility
in the heart of downtown Chilliwack. The Centre will include an art gallery, a 500+ seat performance theatre, a 150-seat recital hall/rehearsal space/dance studio/meeting space, music instruction rooms, arts and crafts studios and related amenities. It will be located on City-owned land at The Landing, adjacent to existing sports and recreation facilities and Prospera Centre. Construction of the building is nearing completion. Please click on the following link to the City of Chilliwack website for more information.
By participating in this exciting project, the Chilliwack Academy of Music will program and manage 19 music instruction rooms including 14 private lesson rooms, 3 small group rooms, a percussion studio and an infant/toddler studio. In addition, the Academy will have regular access to a large music room and the recital hall for rehearsals, recitals and performances. Our involvement in the new cultural centre will allow the Academy to meet the growing demands of our community for high quality music instruction and programming for many years to come. We open the door of our new facility to the public on September 2, 2010!
Equipment Needed
To fund the purchase of the instruments and equipment needed to equip the new music studios the Academy has launched a fundraising campaign. While grants from charitable foundations will be applied for, support from local businesses and individuals will be needed to ensure each music room is ready for use on opening day. The total cost of the instruments and equipment needed is $200,000.
Instruments needed include:
1 drum set
7 grand pianos (1 grand piano donated – 6 still needed)
5 upright pianos (By your generosity we have fulfilled this requirement! Thank you Chilliwack!)
Equipment needed includes:
Music stands, chairs, piano lamps, clocks, artwork and storage cabinets for sheet music library.
